The five electoral commissioners from the Puerto Rican parties Popular Democratic Party (PPD), New Progressive Party (PNP), Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), Citizen’s Victory Party (MVC), Dignity Project & the independent candidate, signed this afternoon the rules established for the first debate that the candidates running for the governorship will have. This event will be held at the Noticentro studios in WAPA Television next thursday, September 24 at 8p.m.
The debate will also have a digital preamble transmitted live via Facebook at 6p.m. & another one on live TV at 7p.m., both leading up to the decisive debate all boricuas have been waiting for.
After the two hour debate, in which economic, health, education, and status issues will be discussed, the political analysts from the news department probe each response from the candidates.
This event is being held in a scenario where the State Election Commission was just appointed a new president & alternate president, after the primary chaos that went down last month where this event took two days to conclude due to the lack of preparation from the commission.
Also, the youths have expressed massive intentions of participation in this election with the unofficial camping of “Sácala y bótalos”, accompanied by the popular reggaeton 2005 hit from Héctor el Father, Don Omar & Daddy Yankee, Sácala. Although they clearly did not refer to an electoral ID back then, little did they know that just 15 years later this song would lead such a massive political movement.
A bipartisan system between the PPD & PNP has been in place on the island since the beginning of its political history in 1949. This, not because of lack of options, but because of years of tradition & voting according to a party’s stance on the topic of status rather than preference on their general platforms. After a total of 18 elections held, these two parties have counted eleven wins for the Popular Democratic Party & seven from the New Progressive Party.
It is expected that this election will change the course of history & provide Puerto Rico a new light of hope that does not shine red nor blue.
